Zeminder Biswambhar Roy (Chhabi Biswas) belonged to a lineage of feudal system hoary with tradition. His fifth and sixth generations lived a life of pleasure and left behind a huge liability. All that was left disappeared in an ocean of debt during the period of Biswambhar.
But proud of his heritage Biswambhar was not to yield to circumstances. By pledging family jewels and ornaments, he celebrated the sacred thread ceremony of his only son Bireswar.
A few days after the celebration, Biswambhar's wife Mahamaya (Padma Devi) left for her father's place with their son and never returned. Biswambhar got the news that the pleasure boat bringing back Mahamaya and Bireswar have been caught in a maelstrom and it is not possible to rescue them.
Four years passed away. Biswambhar lost his all except a piece of land which he enjoyed as a sebait. By the irony of fate, the rich money lender and businessman, Janardan Ganguli's son Mahim Ganguli (Gangapada Basu) is now the Zeminder of the place.
Lost in jealous and hatred, Biswambhar arranged for a Jalsa with a dance of Krishnabai at his JALSAGHAR spending the last farthing of the state and invites Mahim. To prove that the glory of his family is not lost, he offers the last mohurs as present to the Baiji (the dancing girl) before Mahim.
